A referral does not guarantee that a person will be the right fit at the right time within your organization.
Don't get me wrong - referrals are always a huge bonus to have when it comes to hiring.
Leveraging your connections to make an introduction can be valuable.
There are times when the stars truly align for all parties involved.
My advice, though…
Don't let familiarity cloud your judgment when looking at the big picture for this crucial hire.
Ask yourself…
✔ ️ Does this person fit the company culture, team dynamics, and type of leader we need on the team?
✔ Are they able to exceed expectations, execute, and deliver our critical pain points for this role?
✔ Do they have the attitude, aptitude, and ability to grow in this role?
Once you've gone through this evaluation process, you'll have a better perspective on whether they were indeed the right fit at the right time.
Avoid a mis-hire for you and ultimately for them.
We all know the challenges it brings when you hire someone who may not have aligned and been the best fit for your open opportunity.
